Olimpia, Aurora advance to last 16

Olimpia claimed their place in the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana with a 2-1 victory over Emelec on Tuesday, although the match was abandoned eight minutes from time after missiles were thrown onto the pitch.

Colombian referee Jose Buitrago made the decision to call off the match after 82 minutes when objects were thrown from the stands in the direction of Olimpia goalkeeper Martin Silva.

The result was allowed to stand, however, with the Paraguayan side advancing 4-2 on aggregate.

Holding a 2-1 advantage from the opening leg, Olimpia took the lead after just six minutes through Richard Ortiz. Pablo Zeballos then added another after 25 minutes, and although Jose-Maria Franco pulled a goal back for Emelec the damage had already been done.

Olimpia will now face 2007 Copa Sudamericana champions Arsenal in the next round.

Aurora joined them in the last 16 after hammering Paraguayan opponents Nacional 5-2 to complete a 6-3 aggregate success.

Nacional went ahead after seven minutes through Rodrigo Teixeira before Aurora hit back with goals from Jair Reynoso (21) and Diomedes Pena (26). Teixeira scored his second of the match after 32 minutes to pull Nacional level, but Fernando Sanjurjo (38), Augusto Andaveris (73) and Jaime Cardozo (90) put the match to bed for the Bolivians.
